The 49th Anniversary of Roe vs. Wade--How Sad!

January 22, 1973 is the day our United States Supreme Court forever changed the landscape of protecting human rights.  The most vulnerable among us had their right to life taken away from them.  Our country has continued its downward spiral from there.

How many decades will we allow this injustice to continue?

How will you help promote a culture of life in our society?

If abortion has impacted your life in a direct or indirect manner, please know of God's healing.  The Church prays with you, and for you, that God's grace made flood you with healing and peace.

The last fifty to sixty years have revealed much about our society.  The broken political system is only a symptom of a much deeper illness rooted in spiritual apathy.  When faith in God disappears, it is not surprising to see our homes, our communities, our educational institutions, and our government entities go off track.  With the media and tech giants intentionally pushing our country off the tracks by pursuing their own agenda, while censoring opposing viewpoints, we begin to see how we got to this moment in time.

As I reflect upon the founding principles of our nation and the devastating spiritual collapse we have witnessed in our society, my heart remains heavy.  Without spiritual renewal, there is no hope for our nation.  The vile nature of political discourse clearly reveals that many of our politicians have one goal in mind--power and control.  Of course, this typically leads to their personal enrichment as well.  Apparently, it is a good job to have.  Once in office, they stay for decades, and they become multi-millionaires.

Here are a few reminders about the fragile nature of our republic.

"Our Constitution was made only for a moral and religious people.  It is wholly inadequate to the government of any other."
~John Adams

"The strength of our country is the strength of its religious convictions.  The foundations of our society and our government rest so much on the teachings of the Bible that it would be difficult to support them if faith in these teachings would cease to be practically universal in our country."
~ Calvin Coolidge (30th President)

"We cannot read the history of our rise and development as a nation without reckoning with the place the Bible has occupied in shaping the advances of the Republic.  Where we have been the truest and most consistent in obeying its precepts, we have attained the greatest measure of contentment and prosperity."
~ Franklin Roosevelt (32nd President)

"The fundamental basis of this nation's laws was given to Moses on the Mount.  The fundamental basis of our Bill of Rights comes from the teachings we get from Exodus and Saint Matthew, from Isaiah and Saint Paul....  If we don't have a proper fundamental moral background, we will finally end up with a totalitarian government which does not believe in rights for anybody except the State!"
~ Harry Truman (33rd President)

"It cannot be emphasized too clearly and too often that this nation was founded, not by religionists, but by Christians; not on religion, but on the gospel of Jesus Christ."
~ Attributed to Patrick Henry (Governor of Virginia)

"Without morals a republic cannot subsist any length of time; they therefore who are decrying the Christian religion, whose morality is so sublime and pure....are undermining the solid foundation of morals, the best security for the duration of free governments."
~ Charles Carroll (Signer of the Declaration of Independence)

National Hugging Day has been around since 1986. I am not sure how you accomplish this from six feet away, but give it a shot. I invite you to read about the health benefits, and then compare it to what society has experienced for two years now.

Kiwanis Club of Cheyenne--Thank You!

Thanks to one of my colleagues for snapping a photo from the back of the room while I was speaking this afternoon at the Kiwanis Club of Cheyenne. (If my mom were still alive, I would be hearing the words, "Get a haircut.")

I am most familiar with the Kiwanis Club because of the free pancake breakfast on Monday, Wednesday, and Friday during Cheyenne Frontier Days. At the end of my presentation today, I was given a gift which solidified that image. I received my very own pancake flipping tool and an application to join the club.
Picture
The Kiwanis Club of Cheyenne is an impressive organization. They said it was a smaller crowd than usual today at the meeting. If that is the case, I am really impressed. I forgot to take a photo of the room, but there had to be nearly a hundred people in attendance.

I offer a sincere word of gratitude to the members of Kiwanis. As individuals, you are doing good work in the community. It is much appreciated.  As an organization, you are making a difference in the lives of many. We are blessed for your dedication and compassion in building a stronger society.  Thank you!

The response to mandates has been interesting.  Some people are all in. Others are in full resistance. How does human behavior react in different circumstances? Read about the Milgran Experiment from the 1960's for some insights.

Is it also a good time for a refresher on the Neremberg Code?

It's Been A Lighthearted Weekend--Here's One More

I can't even fathom the lifestyle that some folks enjoy. I am sure that yacht cost more money than what I have made in my entire lifetime. Anyway, if you are trying to figure out what to get me as a belated Christmas gift, a yacht similar to this would be just fine.

There are many things I miss about Hilton Head Island. It was amazingly different from what I had ever known. Whether it was seeing the dolphins, the manatees, the birds, alligators, beautiful beaches, or astounding yachts, the warm weather and the smell of the ocean were always a delight. I give thanks to God for these wonderful experiences.
Picture
Picture
I waited a long time to see the head, but I was not quick enough to get a photo when the manatee finally emerged from under the dock and swam away.
Picture
Watching the dolphins swim just before sunset was always a treat.
Picture
The solitude and the serenity of being on the beach was simply amazing!

Back on Twitter--Because I Lack Common Sense

When censorship became the name of the game for Twitter, I decided to exit the platform. However, I have found it increasingly difficult to stay up-to-date on my tin-foil hat conspiracy theories without Twitter. Thus, I started a new account recently.

I read an article over the weekend that said a retired individual should have at least six different streams of income in retirement. This may include Social Security, 401 k, real estate income, employment, etc.  Apparently, many individuals choose to keep working in retirement. If that is going to be the case for me, I want to be sure to keep my resume up-to-date and fresh. What says fresh like "social media influencer"?

I asked a genuine question on my "pinned tweet," but not a single one of my five followers answered. Thus, I am not sure whether or not I am a social media influencer.

Be looking for my next blog post. Once I attach it to Twitter, I am sure I will see my followers increase dramatically. Will it double?

Looking Back @ Southwest Liturgical Conference 2018

Picture
I came across these photos from January 16, 2018 when the Southwest Liturgical Conference was being hosted in Cheyenne, Wyoming.
Picture
I attended a workshop put on by Marty Haugen. I will admit that I may have a little more skill in things like preaching and teaching versus musical talent.
Picture
This was the only large conference I have ever offered a  book signing event. It gave me an opportunity to meet some wonderful people.

I hope you are finding immense blessings on this Second Sunday in Ordinary Time.

Where Is Your Favorite Outdoor Prayer Space?

The sunset from last Tuesday at Mexico Beach, Florida!

At least when my family members go some place exciting, I receive blog photos. I can't wait until I get to see new things again and take my own photos of places like this.

I know that the hurricane damage to this area (Mexico Beach, Florida) was extensive, but this setting could not be any more serene. It is simply gorgeous.

The beauty of God's creation can certainly draw us into prayer. It is my hope that you can see the majestic hand of God wherever you are.

Where is your favorite outdoor prayer space?  Why is that place special to you?

Taking A Brief Look Back--St. Albert & Hilton Head

I took this photo on January 15, 2020 at Saint Albert Catholic School. These are just some of the good things that take place in this wonderful school.

Leadership Council Bluffs stopped in at St. Albert on that same day.

I was in a much warmer climate just a year earlier as I served as the Director of Religious Education for St. Francis by the Sea Parish in Hilton Head Island, South Carolina. I took this photo on January 15, 2019 in Bluffton, South Carolina while attending a deanery catechetical leadership meeting.

Looking back and enjoying the memories of God's blessings in my life helps me stay motivated in the present.
