The challenges we see in our world today can seem far out-of-reach for us to address in any meaningful way. However, I continue to believe that each of us can make a positive difference in our little corner of the world. As you celebrate today, please remember we are free to be a beacon of God's light to others. Be aware of the opportunities that you have for bringing hope and healing to others. Spreading joy can be contagious.
I was going to use a photo of the flag, the Liberty Bell, an eagle, or some other patriotic symbol for this post. I decided to go with my publicity photo from when my book was published. Why? I wanted to remind myself that the patriotic symbols are not just "feel-good" objects to decorate our landscape for one day. Each of those symbols reflect sacrifice on the part of many who have gone before us. Will that dream of freedom come to an end soon, or will each of us cherish and protect the unalienable right to life, liberty and the pursuit of happiness given to us by God?
How will I respond to God's call in my life to build the Kingdom of God?
