On the First Sunday of Lent we heard about Jesus being "led by the Spirit into the desert to be tempted by the devil." How have we been led by the Spirit during these days of Lent? Did we actively follow the promptings of the Holy Spirit in our prayer, fasting, and almsgiving? When temptation to sin entered our lives did we immediately turn to Almighty God for strength, guidance, and perseverance?
We have many opportunities to grow in virtue in our day-to-day lives. If we pray for patience, we can be assured there will be circumstances that will arise to give us the chance to practice that virtue. Do we look at such opportunities to grow in virtue as a blessing or a curse? Growth frequently requires sacrifice. Are we truly pursuing holiness, or are we pursuing comfort?
My encouragement to you today is to simply pray for the guidance of the Holy Spirit in your life. Seek the gifts of the Spirit so that your life will bear the fruits of the Spirit. Let us conquer sin in our lives and unite ourselves completely to the will of God. Continue to live these days of Holy Week well.
