A New Academic Year--Another Opportunity To Grow

The start to another academic year is upon us.  Faculty meetings are in full swing in many places.  Maintenance and janitorial staffs are putting the finishing touches on facilities so they sparkle and shine on that first day of class.  Front office personnel are doing all the prep work that frequently goes unseen an unnoticed.  Teachers are getting their classrooms ready.  It takes a lot of people doing these various duties to help keep our schools running smoothly.

The new playground (pictured above) at St. Francis by the Sea Catholic School is certainly an inviting and welcome addition.  The freshly laid sod looks like artificial turf.  It is a beautiful space for the children to play.  A special prayer of blessing for the playground is scheduled for this Sunday after the 9:00 A.M. Mass.  May each child who uses the playground be kept safe from harm and be filled with joy for the blessings of life.

After serving as the Superintendent of Catholic Schools for the Diocese of Cheyenne for the last eight academic years, I have a deep admiration for all who choose the field of education as a career.  It is not an easy task to be a school teacher or an administrator in this day and age.  My thanks to each and every one of you that fulfill your roles well.  You are truly helping to build a better society because of your commitment and dedication.

Let us pray for all administrators, teachers, coaches, support staff, students, and parents as we embark on another academic year.  May they each be filled with a love for learning and help build a school culture which nurtures a desire to seek eternal Truth.
If we are sincerely seeking the Lord--the Way, the Truth, and the Life--all other aspects of education will properly fall into place.  That does not simply get us a "participation trophy."  It prepares us for eternal life!
