I typically get more speaking requests during Lent than what I can fit onto my calendar. However, it has generally been a different story for Advent. I don't think in my 18 years of presenting parish missions that I have ever done one during Advent. That is about to change.
The parish mission in Douglas has been on my calendar for nearly 20 months now, and the time is finally drawing near. I want to thank the pastor for the invitation. I am grateful for the opportunity to join the parishioners of St. James in Douglas, Wyoming to kick-off the Season of Advent in a powerful way. The Sunday Gospel reading for the First Sunday of Advent gives a clear perspective: "Be Watchful! Be Alert!" How are we heeding that admonition?
I extend an invitation to all who live in the vicinity of Douglas to consider joining us for these days of prayer and reflection. The presentation each night will go from 7:00 to 8:00 P.M. (I am punctual and assure you that I will stick to those time frames.) There will be something applicable to all ages in my presentations. I am especially excited about the young people of the parish already making plans to join us on Wednesday evening. Please know that you are welcome at all of the gatherings.

On a side note--I extend my best wishes to all of the women at Assumption Parish in O'Fallon, Missouri. I appreciate the invitation to speak at your event, "Advent by Candlelight". Unfortunately, as mentioned above, I have had the parish mission on my calendar for over a year and a half and your event is on the same weekend. Even though you contacted me nine months in advance to speak at "Advent by Candlelight," I was unable to accept because of this prior commitment. I am hoping we can make it work for Advent 2018. It would be an honor to join you for that beautiful annual gathering. May your celebration of "Advent by Candlelight" be one that enhances your journey of faith in a profound way!
