The storm did not last long yesterday evening, but it had quite an impact while passing overhead. The double rainbow was a beautiful sight to see but the intensity of the storm had already taken its toll. The early evening hours grew darker and darker as the storm approached. A quick hit of pouring rain and vicious lightning gave way to the reappearance of the sun. The sunshine provided an opportunity to get my shadow into the picture as I watched the storm move off into the distance. Unfortunately, I was standing outside for a purpose. The fire department officials told us to leave the house. One lightning strike came a little too close for comfort and the smell of gas began to permeate the air inside the house. This morning we are still trying to arrange for repairmen to come to assess the full amount of the damage. We know that numerous items were "fried" from that one strike. Thankfully, the house did not catch on fire. The televisions and other electronic gadgets destroyed can be replaced. Repairs to the major appliances will hopefully be successful. If not, they too can be replaced. Maybe all of it is a sign that we are being called to simplify our lives.
