"You are the salt of the earth."
"You are the light of the world."
How well are we doing at being salt and light?
Today we hear these words:
"You are the salt of the earth." "You are the light of the world." How well are we doing at being salt and light?

It was my intent to be in Florida this week. However, the ice storm that went through the south a few days ago and lingered, convinced my wife and I to go another time. Now, I wish we had just delayed our departure rather than canceling. The fun and festivities continue in sunshine with temperatures in the upper 60's. I had actually set a goal last year to participate in the "Double Bridge Run" in Pensacola, Florida which was held today. Realistically, I had not gotten myself in good enough shape to participate as a runner, but I still would have liked to attend. Although the temperatures were in the 30's this morning as runners prepared for the event, it still looked like a lot of fun. According to their social media post, they "were hosting over 3,500 competitors from 43 different states for the 15k and 5k events!" I have to get in shape so I can do this next year. I would have then left Pensacola to head over to the Panama City Beach Mardi Gras and Music Festival. Sawyer Brown was headlining at 3:00 PM and the parade was scheduled for 4:30 PM. People started getting their spots on the parade route quite early in the day. It is obvious that they get a jump on Mardi Gras festivities in the Gulf Coast beach community. While it isn't New Orleans, it appears to be growing in popularity. Sadly, just like last year, I will simply have to enjoy the fun through photos sent to me from family members. Maybe next year will be different??? I wouldn't look so tall next to those ladies on stilts. If you are going to be successful in catching a lot of beads, you have to dress the part. Bright colors and an impressive bow tie should do the trick. Success!

It's hard to believe he has been gone almost half of my life. This celebration of my mom and dad's 50th wedding anniversary (photo below) took place in September of 1992. On February 2, 1994, he was gone after a nine month battle with esophageal cancer.
"May the souls of all the faithful departed rest in peace." We are living in some crazy times. Are you growing closer to our Lord, or do you feel yourself drifting away?
Let the Lord hold you in the palm of His hand. Stay rooted in prayer. |
