I had not been involved in any ministry in the Diocese of Springfield-Cape Girardeau even though it was just to the south of the Archdiocese of St. Louis where I was ordained and worked for many years. However, that changed last fall when I was invited to lead the annual retreat for the deacons and their wives in Cape Girardeau. I had the pleasure and privilege of meeting many of the deacons and their wives at this retreat. I am especially happy for them today as they begin their ministry under a new shepherd.

I extend my prayerful best wishes to Bishop Rice as well as to all of the priests, deacons, religious, and lay faithful of the diocese.
