Southern Missouri, here I come!  This will be my first speaking engagement in the Diocese of Springfield--Cape Girardeau.  I am humbled by the invitation and I am truly excited to spend this time with the diaconate community in a picturesque diocese.  There won't be time for a float trip or other recreational activities, but it will we be a fantastic weekend anyway.

As you can see from the graphic above the Diocese of Springfield--Cape Girardeau encompasses the southern part of the state of Missouri from border to border.  Cape Girardeau sits along the Mississippi River and is the hometown of a famous radio talk-show host.  Guess who?  Springfield is a beautiful city on the other side of the state.  It probably has a lot to offer, but most folks only know about the Bass Pro Shop.  It is a "must see" attraction on the way to Branson and Silver Dollar City.

I have had numerous speaking engagements in the Archdiocese of St. Louis since that is where I was ordained and served for many years.  Six years ago I led a retreat for all of the Catholic school principals in the Diocese of Jefferson City, Missouri in the middle part of the state.  After I go to Springfield--Cape Girardeau this fall, the Diocese of Kansas City--St. Joseph will be the only diocese in Missouri where I will not have been on official business.  I hope to get an opportunity to go there some day for an event as well.

This Friday will be my 16th anniversary as a deacon.  The blessings continue to flow in my life and I am extremely grateful.  I could have never dreamed where diaconate ministry would lead.  Praise God!
