Easter Wednesday--Is Your Flame Burning Brightly?

We are midway through the Octave of Easter.  Is the light of Christ still shining brightly within us?  Maintaining a joyful spirit and hopeful attitude can be difficult when so many things (and people) around us are attempting to bring us down.  Do we recognize that our peace is only found in the risen Christ?  We, who have been baptized into his death, have also been baptized into his resurrection.  “This is the day the Lord has made.  Let us rejoice and be glad in it.”

Scrolling through the headlines of the news can be enough to spark discouragement, discontent, fear, and a sense of hopelessness within us.  A quick perusal today brought up a number of disturbing topics in regard to the continued concerns about a nuclear agreement with Iran, the aggression of Putin and what that means for the rest of the world, the racial divide in America with another video of a police officer shooting a fleeing black man, and of course, the culture wars regarding same-sex unions and the ability to do business as one sees fit.  The sound bite making its rounds is in regard to Indiana having more sanctions in place than what are in place against Iran.  It is evident that our nation is severely divided on many issues.  If it is true that a nation divided against it-self cannot stand, we should be getting a fairly clear picture of where our nation is ultimately headed.

Every person of faith has a responsibility to be a faithful witness to Jesus Christ.  The world desperately needs to see the love of Christ being lived out in a consistent manner.  How do we build up the Kingdom of God in our day-to-day lives?  We don’t water down our beliefs or shy away from getting involved in the civic affairs of life.  However, we do promote the truth with the utmost charity.

Let the light of the risen Christ continue to burn brightly within you!
