Finding Peace of Mind Amid the Chaos of the World

This is a picture of my retirement dreams.  Will it remain just a dream? Probably, but one can still dream anyway.

The lazy part of me wants to withdraw from the world.  On the other hand, I feel a sense of urgency to stay fully engaged.  Our world is in desperate need of healing, the healing that can only be found in Christ.  It is important that we continue to proclaim the Good News of Christ in season and out of season.

The Church exists to evangelize. We cannot lose sight of that primary focus. The manner in which that task is accomplished can be varied.  The preaching, teaching, and healing ministry of Christ can be lived out in many ways.

Preaching--Are the clergy, who are entrusted with this role, fulfilling their mission with diligence in study, fervent prayer, and an inspirational delivery?

Teaching--Are all who have the responsibility of teaching the faith doing so with faithfulness?

Healing--Are we finding ways to adequately bring healing and hope to those who are hurting?

As we approach the two-year mark of "two weeks to flatten the curve," the evidence continues to mount about the devastating consequences on people across the globe. Many people died from COVID.  Many are living with long-term consequences from having COVID.  Depression and other mental health issues from this two-year ordeal will take a toll on society for years to come.  How many families have been devastated by the suicide of a loved one during this time?  Healing is desperately needed for God's people.  How is the Church responding to this dire need?

As we now move into a period of hyperinflation, how many families will be devastated financially?  Even the middle class, who are watching their net worth plummet if they have funds in a 401k or other retirement plan, will be impacted dramatically if this drags on for any length of time?  What is the role of the Church in bringing healing to those impacted by a financial collapse?

What is the role of the Church in serving the elderly and others living on a fixed income?  If a person cannot afford to buy groceries, keep prescriptions filled, keep utilities turned on, and maintain the basic necessities of life, how does the Church respond?  How do we serve those living in poverty?

My dear readers, the world needs our faithful witness to Jesus Christ.  Find a way to be a beacon of Christ's light to others.  Stay strong.  Keep the faith!
