Religion has played an important role in many of our communities.  As you can see from the photos above the town of Cripple Creek, Colorado was established in 1892.  St. Peter's Church in Cripple Creek was also established in 1892.  I do not believe that this is a mere coincidence.  When people settled into new towns, cities, or villages they brought their faith with them.

On Tuesday, June 21, 2016 we begin the Fortnight for Freedom.  It is no secret that Christians, especially Catholics, have felt a sense of attack by the government in recent years.  The Little Sisters of the Poor have become the face of the Church in regard to this attack.  The Health and Human Services (HHS) Mandate that requires the sisters to cover contraception in their health plans is at the heart of the matter.  Where does freedom of religion end and how does the power of the government dictate the end of that freedom?

I have heard many people say that we are living in a post-Christian era in the United States.  If we look at statistical data compiled by a variety of groups we may have to agree with that sentiment.  In one way that makes me very sad.  On the other hand it demonstrates the awesome opportunity we have to evangelize.  There are many people out there who have never heard the Good News of Salvation.  This is our chance!  The Freedom of Religion that we enjoy in our country empowers us to be bold in proclaiming the Gospel in season and out of season.
