Although the Sunday celebration takes precedence this year over the annual Memorial of the Holy Guardian Angels which is normally celebrated on October 2, it is still good to remind ourselves of this particular Memorial and what it means for us. What role do the angels play in the life of the Church today?
I saw on a calendar that today, October 2, is "International Day of Non-Violence." I had not heard of this day before. However, the Catholic Church in the United States has been celebrating the first Sunday of October as Respect Life Sunday ever since 1972. That goes beyond non-violence. The Church emphasizes the sacred dignity and value of each human life from conception through natural death. We are made in the image and likeness of God. That deserves respect!
