Over 130 people gathered yesterday in front of the St. Francis Thrift Store to rally for life. It was 52 degrees with a 10 mph breeze, but at the least the rain had stopped before we gathered. We stood along the main thoroughfare on the island for an hour and prayed for our nation.
Respect Life Sunday, the first Sunday in October, is when the majority of the nation participates in LifeChain. However, St. Francis by the Sea celebrates their patronal feast day on the first Sunday of October with a parish picnic. (St. Francis of Assisi feast day is October 4.) Thus, this time in January leading up to the anniversary of the U.S. Supreme Court decision of Roe versus Wade is also a good time to stand and give witness to the sanctity of life.
