Moving to a new locale requires getting to know new people, new processes, and new institutions.  Last night provided the opportunity to meet more folks as I briefly attended the Saintes Softball Banquet.  I felt like I was crashing a party since I did not hardly know anyone, but I wanted the team members and the coaches to know they had my full support in their endeavors.

As my calendar gets more and more placed into the daily schedule, I am still trying to make it a priority to be present at as many events as possible.  It is important that people know I care about what they are doing here at St. Albert.  Many people work diligently behind the scenes to make activities happen.  Scheduling, practicing, concessions, umpires, scorekeepers, facilities maintenance, Iowa High School Athletic Association paperwork, equipment purchases, and so much more are all part of the equation.  There are people involved who make these things happen.  I have a deep sense of gratitude for each of you that contribute to our success in any way.

As someone who was responsible for running a community ballpark for two summers back when I was in high school, I know the amount of work it takes just to keep the facilities looking good.  Mowing the lawn, dragging the diamond, raking around the pitcher's mound and home plate, putting the bases out, chalking the lines, making purchases for the concession stand, restocking supplies, cleaning the restrooms, picking up trash, and anything else that came up which needed attention all seemed to be part of my job description.  For the many hours given toward these tasks here at St. Albert, either by paid staff or volunteers, thank you!

As we gathered together in the high school cafeteria yesterday evening, I was happy to see such a spirit of joy permeate the room.  It was a privilege for me to speak to the group briefly and offer a prayer of blessing for the food.  The young women had all gathered at one table, and it was evident that quite a bond had developed among them.  Likewise, the parents were obviously well connected too.  St. Albert really is one large extended family.

Although I was unable to stay for the meal or the awards portion of the evening, I am glad I had the opportunity to be present for a little while.  However, as I drove away I realized that I am slipping.  I forgot to take any photos while I was there.  Thus, stock photos from earlier in the year will have to suffice.  Congratulations to the members of the Saintes Softball Team for the improvements and accomplishments you were able to see over the course of the season.  I look forward to what next season will bring.
