As the journey of Lent continues, it is important for us to remember that we are each called to be saints. The way we live matters. God first loved us. Now, what is our response to that love? Will we live in a manner consistent with the Lord's commands?
What did the ashes mean to you when you received them last week? "Remember man that thou are dust, and unto dust you shall return." When was the last time you seriously pondered and reflected upon your death? It will eventually happen to all of us. Do you pray and meditate upon the four last things--death, judgment, heaven, and hell? If you have never given much attention to the four last things, I encourage you to read some of the writings of the saints on the topic. Read the book by St. Alphonsus Liguori entitled, "Preparation for Death." That will give you ample food for thought.
It is easy for us to get caught up in worldly affairs and allow our spiritual journey to suffer. Lent calls us back. Are we heeding that call to repentance?
