The presentations made by the retreat master, Fr. Rob Spaulding, gave plenty of food for thought. The celebration of the Eucharist with the local parish community was uplifting, and praying the Liturgy of the Hours with the diaconate community was also enriching. However, I will admit that I really enjoyed the quiet time for reflection by soaking up the sun and walking around the hot springs. The "down time" with no technological gadgets demanding my attention was a welcome respite.
Although i am physically tired after the five hour drive home, I am spiritually renewed and energized. That is a good thing as I now move into the role of retreat master and workshop presenter over the next couple of months. I appreciate the opportunity and the privilege to teach the faith and preach the Good News of the Kingdom. It is not something I take lightly. It is a privilege that also comes with a significant burden of responsibility and accountability. Going on this retreat and enjoying time with my fellow deacons and their wives was a true blessing indeed.
