How frequently does the Solemnity of the Annunciation of the Lord land on Good Friday? This overlap has happened just three times in the 20th century (1910, 1921, and 1932) and twice in the 21st (2005 and 2016). It won't occur again until 2157. Thus, this was the last time any of us will experience the overlap.
The contrast between the Annunciation and the Crucifixion gives us plenty to ponder. If we meditate upon the original 15 decades of the rosary, we see quite clearly the joy exhibited in the first five mysteries. However, these joy-filled mysteries lead to the sorrowful experiences of our Savior during his passion and death. The end result is glory. That is why the rosary is such a beautiful and powerful prayer. It contains the story of salvation in a very concise manner.
The Solemnity of the Annunciation of the Lord celebrates the beginning of the story of salvation. Take time today to reflect, pray, and give thanks. We are blessed indeed.
