Here is my concern. What happens when you take the glitz and glamour of celebrities and mix it in with politicians and journalists? You get a love-fest that lets you know the media is anything but neutral in regard to how the news is reported. Jokes were made about newsprint being dead. The joke may need to go further. Real journalism is dead. We now have an abundance of commentators and opinion writers. Hard news has been replaced by entertaining analysts seeking to gain ratings. Our freedom is in jeopardy as a result.
A free press is essential for keeping tabs on the powerful and the elite. The Correspondents Dinner is a flagrant example of the rich and powerful being seduced further by celebrity surroundings. Unbiased journalism is tough to deliver when you are immersed in the privileged atmosphere that was on display at the Correspondents Dinner.
