I had the pleasure of leading an Advent Day of Recollection yesterday at St. Francis by the Sea Catholic Church. Nearly fifty people were in attendance for the day. It inspires me to see people take time out of their busy schedule just ten days before Christmas to focus on their spiritual journey. I was certainly blessed to spend the day with these fellow pilgrims.
The first two weeks of Advent has renewed my awareness of the urgency of the Gospel message. None of us know the time nor the hour when we shall be called from this earth. Are we ready if that call comes sooner rather than later? Do we have singleness of purpose to be a saint?
In my presentation yesterday I spoke a little about the events at Pentecost. Why? There is a sense of waiting and preparing in Advent that can be correlated with the waiting and preparation between the Ascension and Pentecost. Are we waiting with great expectation for God to move in our midst? The Incarnation and the descent of the Holy Spirit both bring grace and power into our lives. Are we receptive to the gift?
